Thumbnail imageVagelis (birth name: Evangelos) Plevris is a Civil Engineer and Economist. He is currently Assistant Professor in Earthquake Engineering at the Department of Civil Engineering, School of Pedagogical & Technological Education (ASPETE), Athens, Greece, were he was elected in July 2010.

Vagelis Plevris was born in 1976 in Heraklion, Crete, Greece. He graduated from "Lyceum Korais" school in 1994 when he entered the School of Civil Engineering, National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), graduating in July 1999 with the Bachelor (Diploma) in Civil Engineering. He continued his studies at a post-graduate level and in March 2001 he received the Master in Science (MSc) from NTUA in "Analysis and Design of Earthquake Resistant Structures".

After working for a short time at the private sector, in January 2002 he joined the Greek Air Force. He served for 19 months as Cadet Reserve Officer and currently he holds the rank of Reserve Second Lieutenant. In September 2002 he began a new post-graduate program in "Business Administration" (MBA), at the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), in collaboration with NTUA, which he successfully completed in October 2003.

In June 2004 he returned to the field of Civil Engineering and the Laboratory of Structural Analysis and Seismic Research of NTUA where he began his doctoral thesis (PhD) under the supervision of Professor M. Papadrakakis. In June 2009 he received the PhD Degree from the School of Civil Engineering of NTUA. His doctoral dissertation is titled "Innovative Computational Techniques for the Optimum Structural Design Considering Uncertainties" .

He is married, with two children. Apart from Greek (first language), he speaks English (fluently), German (very good) and Italian (very good).
