Vagelis Plevris (birth name: Evangelos) is a Civil Engineer and Economist. He is an Assistant Professor in Earthquake Engineering at the Department of Civil Engineering of the School of Pedagogical & Technological Education (ASPETE) in Athens, Greece and also Deputy Director of the MSc course "Applied Computational Structural Engineering" (http://acse.aspete.gr/).
He was born in 1976 in Heraklion, Crete, Greece. He holds a Bachelor (Diploma) in Civil Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) with specialization in structural engineering, an MSc from NTUA on "Structural Design and Analysis of Structures", a Master in Business Administration (MBA) from the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) and a PhD from the School of Civil Engineering of NTUA. The title of his doctoral dissertation was "Innovative Computational Techniques for the Optimum Structural Design Considering Uncertainties".
His research interests include (i) Finite Element Method (FEM); (ii) Static and dynamic analysis of structures with FEM; (iii) Earthquake engineering; (iv) Optimum design of structures; (v) Reliability and probabilistic analysis of structures; and (vi) Neural Networks and their applications in engineering.
He is married, with a daughter and a son. He speaks Greek (mother tongue), fluent English, German and Italian.
